Science and technology is a topic that encompasses science, technology, and the interactions between the two. Science is a systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of explanations and predictions about nature and the universe. Technology is the collection of techniques, methods or processes used in the production of goods or services or in the accomplishment of objectives, such as scientific investigation, or any other consumer demands.
Science may drive technological development, by generating demand for new instruments to address a scientific question, or by illustrating technical possibilities previously unconsidered. In turn, technology may drive scientific investigation, by creating demand for technological improvements that can only be produced through research, and by raising questions about the underlying principles that a new technology relies on.
For the majority of human history, technological improvements were achieved by chance, trial and error, or spontaneous inspiration. When the modern scientific enterprise matured in the Enlightenment, it primarily concerned itself with basic questions of nature. Research and development directed towards immediate technical application is a relatively recent occurrence, arising with the Industrial Revolution and becoming commonplace in the 20th century.
As academic fields, science and technology are often grouped with engineering and mathematics, as the STEM fields.

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Peter is a school principal with a radical solution, no school bell, no school levels, staff selection and curriculum is even decided by students. Result? No bullying, collaboration, innovation in school dynamics. Peter Hutton hated his own school experience, where he felt that education was being done “to him”. As Principal of Templestowe College he developed an educational model that allows students to individualize their education and share control in the running of the school. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions. The term may also be applied to any machine that exhibits traits associated with a human mind such as learning and problem-solving.

Artificial intelligence is based on the principle that human intelligence can be defined in a way that a machine can easily mimic it and execute tasks, from the most simple to those that are even more complex. The goals of artificial intelligence include learning, reasoning, and perception.

What is an accommodation?
An accommodation is an adaptation or change to educational environments or practices that helps a student overcome the barriers, or challenges, presented by the disability. It does not change the expectations for learning or the requirements of the task.

Identify a student with a disability in your classroom. Specifically, identify a student who has difficulty in a typical classroom setting demonstrating knowledge. For example, the student might not be able to respond through typical response formats like written tests. To protect the privacy of your student, please use a first name only, or else use an alias.

Describe the student you selected, making sure to include:

One of the most important healthy habits to prevent the spread of germs is to clean your hands. Our hands can carry germs, so it is important to wash them often, even if they don’t look dirty.

When to Wash Your Hands
Make sure to clean your hands before and after:

Using the bathroom or changing diapers
Eating
Cooking or serving food
Treating a cut or wound
Contact with a sick person
Putting on and removing protective equipment like a face mask
Clean your hands after these actions:

Coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose
Touching another person’s hands or touching an animal or pet
Handling garbage
Touching frequently touched areas (doorknobs) or contaminated items (dirty laundry or dishes).

Ask the student to submit a reflection about whether the accommodation helped with demonstrating knowledge. Whenever possible, we prefer to receive the student’s original work rather than a transcript or summary of the student’s reflection. The format of the reflection can accommodate the age or disability (e.g., written, audio) of the student. If, to meet this requirement, it is necessary to submit a transcript of a conversation with the student, please report the student’s responses verbatim.
