In our last post, We had a close look at Credentialing and what it entails. We also gained insight into how healthcare companies and providers manage this very important function in healthcare recruitment. Having understood why healthcare credential management is so crucial not only from a business perspective but also ensures there are no legal implications, the stage is just right to introduce another factor closely related to Credentialing, namely Compliance.
Join me in exploring why Compliance in Credentialing is so important and how this need not be such an onerous task with specialized apps, customized specifically for online healthcare recruitments. Credential compliance is achievable with minimal stress. Let us understand how, but first-a brief background.
What is Compliance in Credentialing, and Why does it matter?
I am using the the term ‘Compliance’ to mean meeting the requirements for Credentialing and participating in effective Compliance programs as set forth by the Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the National Committee for Quality Assurance(NCQA). This includes internal auditing, monitoring, credentialing education and training, developing plans of corrective action in responding to related problems as well as enforcing credentialing standards. Most Compliance programs, while generally operating as independent entities, report to their respective boards of directors or other committees providing assistance and oversight to the process.
So, what happens if a healthcare fails to verify accurately? Without careful oversight and auditing, it is all too possible for omissions or errors to occur before, during, or immediately following the process, which could lead to enrollment issues as well as open a pandora’s box to legal problems if the process is incomplete or the provider’s privacy is compromised. Furthermore, the 1960s case of Darling vs. Charleston Hospital established the responsibility of hospitals and other healthcare facilities in verifying the professional credentials of the physicians and other providers practicing under their roof.

In anticipation of starting a new semester it is always a good idea to check the materials you plan on using for your course. Here are a couple of pitfalls that could happen, and how you might protect yourself.
1) Where did that go?
Sometimes we link to library resources such as journal articles, books, or media and we expect that the link will be ‘good’ in perpetuity. However, over time things shift and change. It is a good idea to use stable links to ensure that your resources will be available to students when they select the link you have provided. Some resources have a limit to the number of individuals who can access the resource at one time. Through a case study on Mozambique's Gorongosa National Park, learners will explore how scientists study ecosystem
The idea that food webs and ecosystem functioning are intimately linked harkens back at least to the work of Forbes (1887). He pondered, in his lake as a microcosm paper, the complexity of lake ecosystems and how this complexity could be maintained given the complex network of trophic interactions. He also emphasized that spatial structure, both within and among lakes, could be important. Lindeman (1942) built on Forbes’s vision of a food web as a microcosm by linking a simplified view of food webs to ecosystem metabolism. Since then, much thinking has gone into understanding food webs and their links to ecosystem attributes (Odum 1957; Margalef 1963), but until recently the importance of space has not sufficiently been integrated into these thoughts. By contrast, the importance of space to populations and communities has been recognized for some time (Watt 1947; Skellam 1951; MacArthur & Wilson 1967), but the connection between this literature and food webs and ecosystems is only now being resolved (Loreau et al. 2003; Polis et al. 2004; Holt & Hoopes 2005; Pillai et al. 2009; Gravel et al. 2010a). Join your Move More @ Work Team for a full body strength and stretch routine. Exercises are body weight, low-impact, and can be done seated or standing.
Move More @ Work is an ongoing campaign facilitated by University Health and Wellbeing’s Health Promotion and Engagement office. Their goal is to encourage Spartans to engage in physical activity and movement throughout the workday.
This series is a free group fitness class (in person and virtual) to take a movement break during the workday. Two ways to join: in-person in the Green Room at the MSU Library or via Zoom.

The session will include discussion of common indicators that students may be facing challenges affecting their educational success, strategies for effective communication, and how to use campus resources and reporting tools like EASE to provide timely support.
